Goodness, we are tired.
Still trying to work out getting Gaius to sleep on his own, in a bassinet. Currently, the only way to get him to sleep is in the Mayan ring sling or on one of our chests. Trying to get him use to the idea of sleeping alone on his back in 10 minute stretches, which we hope to increase over time. Right now, "sleeping on his back" consists of hysterical screaming (I find earplugs help to take the edge off of the brain-piercing cries).
Good thing Gaius is so darned cute.

Hey Guys -
Seamus didn't sleep on his own for a couple of months. It helped us to know that this was something other people had experienced and that we would be able to work on getting him to nap on his own eventually. We rarely hold him anymore when he naps, but some people tried to convince us that if we didn't try to put him down he would never nap alone. I think it's just a newborn thing. They like the contact and security of mommy and daddy.
He's really beautiful! Sleep will come eventually. I promise! And one day Gaius will laugh and smile at something you do. Or laugh AT you. Either way, it will melt your hearts.
Thanks, Mamma Elf!
That is REALLY reasurring to know.

Those pictures are so cute!!!
I don't think I've ever seen such a cute beard, I mean.
I concur with esteemed colleague Greta about the sleep thing. It's totally normal for a baby to only want to sleep while being held. Do chimpanzees put their chimplets into bassinets to sleep? Do bonobo apes put their young into cribs? No, they have a sex with them instead. But that's another story ... what I'm trying to say is, schemes to get babies to sleep a) alone and b) as long as possible are intended to benefit the parents, not necessarily the babies.
On the other hand, you have to try to maintain your tenuous grip on sanity, so you have to balance what's "natural" for the baby with whatever allows you to continue to function without collapsing.
The best strategy is to raise your child in a medium-sized group of apes or hippies -- in that way, everyone can help with the newborns, and the parents get to sleep once in while.
In any case, you will absolutely figure out a sleep scheme that works for all three of you. And as soon as you do, Gaius will change his sleep habits and you'll start all over again.
I'm told that eventually, a child's sleep patterns become entirely predictable. I think this happens around age 15.
Congratulations Brad & Jen! Gaius is beautiful!
Enjoy cuddling with him now and sleep when he sleeps. It won't last forever. He won't go to kindergarten or his senior prom still sleeping on your chest. Soon enough he will give you the "not" look when asking for a kiss goodbye when you drop him off from school.
Try getting him to fall asleep in your arms facing out maybe even holding onto a stuffed animal or something that he can eventually take to bed with him.
Good luck & enjoy! I am so glad we are past these days but I am also looking forward to nieces and nephews.
Tricia
